I was teaching my Foreign Policy of Kenya class and in the discussion, one student, a young Somali girl, Halima asked a question regarding Martin Luther King Jr. She asked if he was the same man responsible for the 95 theses that become the foundation of Protestant reformation. The question reminded me of an article written by Mehdi Hasan sometimes in 2015. In the article, Mehdi Hassan opined that Islam doesn't need a reformation, like the Christian one that Martin Luther orchestrated against the Catholic Church in 1517. I posed the question to the young Somali girl, who quickly retorted saying "Islam doesn't need a reformation". I sent her the article by Mehdi Hassan. I am sharing Mehdi Hasan's article, which I found very interesting.
